To be a singer in the Philippines, known to produce some of the world's best singers, being a household name for nearly three decades like Sarah Geronimo is no easy feat. There are many factors but some may lie on how her music has evolved through time.
Using Spotify's metrics, the Data Dictionary analyzed about 60 of Geronimo's songs since 2003, including both originals and covers. We found that not only does Geronimo's music exude more energy vocally, it is also getting more groovy.
According to Spotify, a song's "energy" is gauged by how loud, noisy and fast songs are. Not surprising, Geronimo's ballad hits such as "Forever's Not Enough" and her version of Celine Dion's "To Love You More" – which won her the competition that started her singing career – easily give a high energy score.
However, those earlier songs are not as danceable as her later ones like "Misteryo" from her The Great Unknown album in 2015. "Misteryo" and "To Love You More" have a point difference in energy score, but the former is way up there in terms of grooviness or having that beat that makes you dance.
Anecdotally, of course, this is already obvious. Geronimo's more recent songs have seen her sing and dance, and in some cases, depart from her belting diva image in the early 2000s. Her discography shows hits such as "Ikot-Ikot" up in Spotify's energy and danceability metrics. Between "Tala" and "Kilometro", the former is found to have a higher danceability, but the latter beats it with slightly more energetic vibe, our analysis showed.
In fact, for the past three years, Geronimo has been singing faster, groovier and more energetic songs. Her singles "Cuore" and "Sansinukob, Salamat" in 2022 as well as her latest collaboration with boyband SB19 titled "Umaaligid" are some of her most danceable songs yet. To compare, only "Sa Iyo" in her first album came close to these recent hits in terms of danceability.

Methodology

The Data Dictionary used the Track Analysis API to analyze Sarah Geronimo's songs on Spotify. The dataset, which is not exhaustive due to incompleteness of available data, analyzed Geronimo's songs using Spotify's metrics for energy, danceability, and acousticness.
